Essential duties & responsibilities

As a penetration tester at Claranet, you will deliver a full range of chargeable testing work from web app and infrastructure testing to social engineering and Red Team exercises.

You will be comfortable with client-facing activities, mentoring more junior colleagues and assisting sales with client enquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking penetration testing engagements and other projects as required
  • Assisting with pre/post sales activities as required
  • Providing technical mentoring to colleagues
  • Encouraging a positive, proactive and solution-oriented approach among team members
  • Communicating within Sec-1 and with clients, both orally and in writing
  • Assisting with the development and growth of the Sec-1 team and services
  • Assisting with the development of cutting-edge training material for internal and external delivery
  • Contribute to the writing and publishing of Sec-1 whitepapers and advisories
  • Working with Practice Lead to create an effective and productive testing environment
  • Delivering targeted research and development in line with direction of the business
  • Assisting with seminars and industry exhibitions as required

About You

Position specifications

Essential Technical

  • Achieved CREST Registered Tester (CRT) or equivalent benchmark qualification
  • Be proficient in conducting infrastructure security assessments against Windows and Unix based networks
  • Able to manually exploit infrastructure vulnerabilities and escalate privileges
  • Able to manually and proficiently exploit web application vulnerabilities
  • Have a good understanding of mobile application testing and methodologies
  • Able to contribute to the development of subject matter expertise in a broad range of topics
  • Have a working knowledge of common programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java
  • Have experience of at least one scripting language such as Ruby, Python or Perl
  • Able to write exploit code / assessment tools for common vulnerabilities

Essential Experience

  • Delivering infrastructure and web app testing both remotely and onsite
  • Providing remediation advice in meetings and conference calls
  • Working under pressure of deadlines and structuring workload accordingly
  • Problem-solving, helping others to understand complex ideas
  • 2+ years information technology experience
  • 2+ years computer and network security experience
  • 2+ years’ experience managing client projects
  • 2+ years information security consulting experience

Essential General

  • Willing to travel to deliver onsite work as required
  • Conducting penetration testing work out of normal office hours on occasion
  • Client facing, able to confidently and professionally represent the company
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work in an independent manner as well as part of a team
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Positive, collaborative and enthusiastic

In addition, the following are highly desirable:

  • NCSC CHECK Team Leader or Team Member status
  • Security clearance
  • CISSP, CISA, CEH, OSCP or equivalent reputable information security certifications
  • Familiarity with testing cloud environments
  • Public speaking experience
  • Full UK driving license
