Job Description Summary
Operate as a functional specialist AND/OR manage the provision of a Cyber Security service supporting the wider Group; managing assigned team members and virtual teams as appropriate
May supervise the day to day activities of a small team and/ or line management responsibility for more junior colleagues.
May have significant and in depth knowledge of specific Cyber Security applications and/ or processes. Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) and is ‘on point’ to provide support and guidance as required (Such as in an incident scenario).
Is likely to run and administer one or more Cyber Security tools/ processes (such Triage).

The Web Application Gateway Firewall (WAGF) team is responsible for protecting and securing the edge points of ingress and egress from the Groups core infrastructure. We don’t just look after the policies that we enforce, but also the underlying infrastructure and as experts in our field we are consulted on widely within the organisation to help drive strategy and diagnose complex incidents. We focus equally on premise and in the cloud covering all major cloud vendors, with a multitude of technologies at our disposal
This technical lead role will be pivotal in driving these technologies, taking ownership of incidents whilst ensuring that our customers both internal and external are protected. Whether it’s a focus on the ingress or egress, you’ll have low level understanding of Web based communication, certificate negotiation and HTTP packet construction.
The role is very varied so efficient use of your time as well as being a self-starter is a must.

The successful candidate would help drive the future of Application Security in the Cloud, to drive adoption of technologies suited to existing Applications and newer Modern Architectures. You will also work with some experienced engineers as part of a team which introduces and maintains the security policies driving to keep all applications secure within the bank.
This role builds the balance of combining hands on delivery and supporting activities, with the requirement to co-ordinate, manage and deliver in time, in order to deliver complex pieces of work and input into solution design. Your time will be split between keeping the banks systems running and driving those key implementations which will shape the future of the bank.
This is an operational focussed team so an element of “out of hours” working / support to deliver change will be expected, as well as joining our 24/7 callout rota.
What we’re looking for…
You’ll be able to demonstrate most of the following technical capabilities with some to an advanced level.
- HTTP Packet construction and communication
- Network technologies (inc IP addressing, routing, DNS and ACL’s)
- Python or PowerShell Scripting
- ServiceNow Incident, Change and problem management
- Understanding OWASP top 10, new application threats
- Knowledge of Imperva SecureSphere, Akamai or Native WAF implementations
Non-Technical:
- Evidence of co-ordinating complex technical deliveries
- Taking the lead in delivering change
- Influencing different areas of the bank at varying levels
- Take the lead in responding to audit or compliance requests

- You’ll review, assess and feedback on technical designs provided by both architects and designers. Part of your role is to influence those designs to ensure they are operationally fit for purpose and meet IT operational and policy requirements.
- You’ll lead and coordinate complex projects, developed and delivered to agreed objectives and quality standards, by providing technical leadership of virtual teams.
- You’ll review and assess validation criteria at project initiation and ensure success criteria are met at each project gateway.
- You’ll need to provide a technical focus point for the team, mentoring and coaching other colleagues and acting as a technical escalation point with the aim to improve overall team capability
- You’ll also identify and implement improvements to technical processes and toolsets to improve resource and cost efficiency, and/or reduce risk
- You’ll carry out technical activities in support of project delivery, service improvement and ongoing support of the platform as required
- You’ll become part of an on-call rota, either providing technical break fix capability or technical co-ordination of recovery teams.
