ull Job Description

Aston Business School is a triple accredited University (EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA) and a leading UK University for academic research (REF2021 rated 79% of Aston’s research as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ and 74% of research impact as ‘very considerable or ‘outstanding’). Aston prides itself on excellent teaching and business engagement. We are one of the few UK institutions with the Small Business Charter’s Gold Award. In 2020 we were The Guardian’s University of the Year and the THE’s Entrepreneurial University of the Year. We were shortlisted for THE’s University of the Year in 2021-22 and are in the QS Top 500 World University Rankings in 2022.

The Operations and Information Management Department conducts teaching, research and engagement activities in various aspects of operations, analytics and IS/ICT. There is a thriving teaching innovation and research culture in the Department, which has a strong reputation for being both rigorous and relevant.

The Cyber Security Innovation (CSI) csiresearch.co.uk Centre at Aston brings together stakeholders from industry, government and leading cybersecurity research institutions. CSI members include globally recognized academics undertaking projects that address real-world cyber security challenges through innovative solutions. The scope of the international Cyber Security & Innovation Centre is to strategically manage operations and build effective relationships across academia, industry and policy makers.

As part of our growth strategy, we are seeking inspirational and highly motivated individuals to contribute to the development of the Department’s teaching, PhD/DBA supervision, and enterprise activities. We welcome discussions with prospective candidates whose interests include, but are not limited to: information systems, emergent technologies, cyber security, VFAs and crypto currencies, artificial intelligence and machine learning, IT consultancy, e-business and virtual organisations.

Candidates should have experience of teaching technology management, digital transformation, technology consulting, cybersecurity, privacy and data security management; AI and machine learning as well as blockchain experience are desirable. We are keen to discuss new ideas to strengthen our teaching portfolio, research profile and business support provision.

You will have a good first degree as well as a PhD, or equivalent, in a relevant academic discipline. It would be desirable to be able to demonstrate an emerging record of innovative teaching and links to industry and or society. We are especially looking for people with practical IT/IS skills (e.g. database and IS/IT systems development) and a ‘hands-on and can-do’ attitude.

Posts are appointable at Teaching Fellow or at a Senior Teaching Fellow depending on qualifications, aptitude and experience. Your application must state which you are applying for in your application.
